The big picture

Bitcoin closed at $64,160, down 1.45% from $65,107, as the Fear & Greed Index held at 28—a deep-fear reading. Daily volume reached $27.3 billion. BTC dominance held steady at 56.6%. On-chain structure currently sits in what we label Early Accumulation, with the closest historical analogue being the week of April 13, 2026—a period marked by deep drawdown and extreme fear.

Whale activity surged dramatically. Tracked whales moved 137,830 BTC ($8.8 billion) across 2,843 transactions—59% above the 7-day average of 86,439 BTC and 43% above normal transaction counts. The top five moves totaled 10,840 BTC ($695.5 million), with three moves flowing toward exchanges and two wallet-to-wallet repositionings. Net whale flow into exchanges reached 2,100 BTC ($134.7 million), with 15,221 BTC arriving at exchanges versus 13,121 BTC departing. Among tracked whales, 306 turned distribution-side this week (net 114,834 BTC) while 263 turned accumulation-side (net 106,347 BTC)—a notable behavioral shift from the prior ~three weeks.

Stablecoin and cross-chain flows remained muted. USDC whale transfers (≥$1M on Ethereum) totaled $31.97 billion across 2,973 transactions, with $112 million flowing toward exchanges and $45 million leaving—a net distribution of $67 million. Tokenized-treasury demand showed net minting of $1.18 million across OUSG, USDY, and BUIDL over seven days. Wrapped-BTC positions reversed: 770.6 BTC moved out of the Ethereum DeFi ecosystem via wrapped tokens, returning capital to the native Bitcoin chain.

The shift in whale behavior—more holders turning toward distribution despite the fear regime—suggests a divergence in conviction. Cold-storage moves remain steady, yet the near-term supply pressure from large holders onto exchanges has ticked upward. Fee rates remain normal, and mempool depth unchanged, signaling no acute settlement urgency.

What to watch tomorrow

Monitor exchange inflows over the next 24–48 hours to confirm whether the distribution shift hardens into sustained selling pressure, and watch for any dormant-wallet activations that might signal regime-change conviction.
